George Rodrigue (1944 – 2013) left an indelible mark on the art world with his iconic Blue Dog series. Initially recognized for his Cajun-inspired landscapes, Rodrigue's artistic journey took a transformative turn in the late 1980s with the introduction of the Blue Dog: a recurring character featuring a blue dog with yellow eyes, inspired by the artist's late dog, Tiffany. He was honored as an Absolut Vodka artist joining the ranks of noteworthy Pop Artists such as Andy Warhol. Rodrigue's earlier career saw him receive accolades in Paris and earn the title of the "American Rousseau." He painted Cajun celebrities and U.S. presidents including George H.W. Bush, Ronald Reagan, and Bill Clinton. In 2008, the New Orleans Museum of Art honored him with a major retrospective. Rodrigue leaves behind a legacy of art that invites viewers to ponder life's existential questions through the unwavering gaze of the Blue Dog.
