Didier Guillaume, born Louis Mathieu Didier Guillaume in Nantes, France, in 1816, settled in Richmond, Virginia, by 1857. There, he established himself as a painter specializing in portraits, historical scenes, and still lifes. By 1871, he relocated to Washington, DC, where he continued his artistic career until his death in 1892.

This painting in oil on artist board, featuring a floral bouquet arranged in a cornucopia-shaped vase beside a standing figure. It is signed "L. M. D. Guillaume" in the lower left corner, with the reverse side displaying a printed label from Geo. Ryneal, Jr., a supplier of artist materials in Washington, DC. The artwork is set in what appears to be its original gilt and gesso frame

Dimensions (framed): 29 3/4" x 23 5/8"

Condition: Painting is good overall condition commensurate with age. Minor age-appropriate craquelure. Antique frame has moderate loss to plaster gilding but no significant damage. Frame presents nicely.
