Leonard Maurer (1912 – 1976), a Washington D.C. artist and teacher, created an extensive and diverse body of work, including over 550 paintings, prints, drawings, collages, and woodblocks. He began his artistic journey at a later age, working as a bookseller before pursuing art. His art defied easy classification, moving between realism and abstraction, and often conveyed his deep reverence for nature, literature, and the simple joys of life. His work has been exhibited at prominent D.C. galleries including the Phillips Collection, the Watkins Art Gallery at American University and the Franz Bader Gallery.
